Research Centre in Criminal Law, Criminology and Intelligence

The Group is composed of academics and professionals from the legal world (lawyers, prosecutors, and members of public administration and Security Forces) who join their efforts to achieve an effective criminal justice system for crime prevention that, at the same time, adopts as its paradigm the respect for fundamental rights as a hallmark of democratic criminal law. To this end, the main research lines are oriented, whose common denominator is to face some of the great challenges of current criminal policy by proposing solutions based on rigorous studies - both basic and applied research - that are the result of national or international research projects that the Group has obtained in competitive calls. Likewise, the Group carries out training tasks for key professionals in the sector (public administration officials, members of the Security Forces, personnel from third sector), with whom permanent collaboration ties are maintained at the level of knowledge transfer. The efforts to disseminate knowledge aimed at raising awareness among society about the problems related to criminal justice stand out, so that the community can participate in the criminal-political debate with knowledge of the facts, which has a positive impact on legislative policy and public security policies.
