The VALHALA (Variation on Language, History And Literature in Anglophone countries) research group aims to explore lines of research that stem from the discipline of English philology although adopting a transversal and interdisciplinary perspective on different aspects of the Anglophone history, culture and literature. The main lines, expressed through keywords in this application, cover the studies of the most traditional philology in combination with the latest trends emerging from the digital, multidisciplinary and transversal society. The research carried out by the members of this group will try to explore discourses with a marked multicultural character, given that English-speaking oral and written expression embraces a range of cultures and traditions that extends beyond the British Isles or the United States, becoming a complex network of artistic manifestations of a diverse and heterogeneous nature. This intricate amalgam of expressions and manifestations, which requires a markedly multidisciplinary approach in line with the needs and demands of the twenty-first century, will be carried out by researchers belonging to different branches of linguistics, comparative literature or intercultural studies. The research work will pay attention to issues related to literature, culture and history (especially medieval and Renaissance), but will also focus on artistic manifestations and discourses of many other types, rooted in the performing arts, cinema, video games, music or graphic novels, among a multitude of other possibilities.
