The group conducts fundamental and applied research work in fields related to electrical energy, electronics and automatic control. It includes researchers from the areas of Systems and Automatic Engineering and Electrical Engineering, as well as a researcher in the area of Computer Architecture. The group carries out basic research work as well as applied work in collaboration with private companies and other institutions. The basic research is done through publicly funded Research Projects. Examples of recent projects include: • Dimensioning and optimal use of energy storage systems in microgrids and intelligent distribution networks. • Development of control algorithms for distributed systems implementable by industrial standards. • Estimation and control strategies for minimising energy cost in processes with varying disturbances and subject to tariff periods. • Development and implementation of an energy management system for improving the dynamic response of a compensator-generator in microgrid applications. Collaboration with companies is carried out through specific contracts. Examples of contracts with companies include: • Control system based on fuzzy logic for a biological process at a sewage treatment plant. • Technology support contract UJI–Polymer Characterization S.A. for the development of an electronic temperature control and monitoring card. • Development of an electronic protection relay. • Automation of the on-site process of the production and conservation of concrete specimens for quality control in construction.
