Ecophysiology and Biotechnology

The group has been working for the last 20 years on the study of plant responses to adverse conditions. The work began by studying the responses of citrus to individual stresses (drought, high salinity, waterlogging of the substrate, extreme temperatures, etc.) and has evolved towards the study of the effect of complex stresses (in citrus and other crops) where high temperatures are combined with other abiotic factors. This line is currently becoming more important due to the increase in adverse crop conditions caused by climate change. As a complement to the main line, the response of citrus and other plant species to biotic stress has also been studied. Model plants have often been used to better understand the molecular responses of plants to stress. The group has always strived to ensure the work carried out has practical applications and has sought agronomic treatments and product applications that could offset the damage caused by abiotic stress in crops.
