The IRMA VEP Research Group was founded as an observatory from which to glimpse, trace and study the epistemic, aesthetic and ethical crossroads of subjects in contemporary visual culture. Using textual analysis as a methodological compass, we question the statute of the cinematographic, at a time of media convergence and cultural consumption that challenges the aura and rituals of cinema theatres. Thinking about film and photography studies in the light of psychoanalysis, philosophy and literature allows us to consider in our research such delicate notions as the body and time; inheritance, trauma and memory; voice and desire; singular inventions in the light of the enigma of the feminine and the masculine. IRMA VEP, together with other members of the ÍTACA research group, organizes SALA CALIGARI, a space for thinking about cinema, series and photography that since 2015 has been held biannually at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences.
