The research group 022 started its activity from the very moment that the Universitat Jaume I was created. It was originally called Síntesi Orgànica and its coordinator from the beginning was Professor Miguel Carda Usó. Miguel Carda's close collaboration with Professor J. Alberto Marco of the University of Valencia allowed the group to launch research lines aimed at developing new stereoselective synthesis methodologies and their application to the synthesis of natural products. During the first years, other members of the UJI joined the group and have remained in it, such as Professor Juan Murga Clausell or Cat. Eva Falomir, current coordinator. Throughout the second decade of the 21st century, the research group began to develop lines of research that cover a multidisciplinary branch within organic chemistry, such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacological chemistry and even biological chemistry. Specifically, the new lines of research were focused on the design, synthesis and biological evaluation of small organic molecules with anticancer activity. Thus, cell and molecular biology techniques began to be developed and, in 2012, a biological testing laboratory was set up within the Organic Synthesis-022 research group of the UJI. In 2019, in line with the new lines of research developed, the name of our research group was changed to Joining Medicine and Chemistry (JMC)-022, the initials were in honour to our beloved Juan Murga, who passed away in 2019.
